KTC PRESENTS RACHEL LAMPERT'S ADVENTURES IN CHINA
The mission: six weeks to stage the first production of West Side Story in mainland China with an all Chinese-speaking cast. No sweat, thinks Rachel Lampert, intrepid choreographer. Of course, she doesn't speak a word of Chinese, the hotel looks like Hell's Kitchen, there's no rehearsal pianist, the Red Army is requisitioning her cast, and the zany cadre of academics who hired her and her friend Joanne keep insisting, ever so politely, that they stay six months. Oyveh! What's a tiny Jewish woman from Brooklyn to do?
